Asrın’s law firm has published a written statement on the role of Abdullah Öcalan, the jailed leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), in resolving the Kurdish issue amid recent debates over “who is the interlocutor for resolve the issue “.

Released in Kurdish and Turkish, his lawyers’ statement stated that Öcalan, who is being held in solitary confinement in İmralı prison, is deprived of all his rights.

The lawyers said: “There have been debates about the position of our client Mr. Abdullah Öcalan and his role in resolving the Kurdish issue for some time. However, he did not have the opportunity to comment on this issue or the like. other issues. “

The lawyers’ statement said: “Even if there was no obstacle to a democratic resolution of the Kurdish question on the part of the ruling circles, it has not been and cannot be resolved”.

The lawyers added: “For this reason, discussing Öcalan without Öcalan or discussing the resolution of the Kurdish issue without him is not the way or the method to be adopted for a real and lasting resolution. Without a doubt, Mr Öcalan is the most important interlocutor for an honorable resolution of the Kurdish question and for the construction of a democratic future. “

“HDP is the social leader”

Referring to the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) in its statement, the Legal Cabinet said: “The HDP, as the representative of democratic negotiation politics, is a social leader who aspires to organize peace and democracy. Without the HDP, it is not possible for the conditions for resolution to mature and for the ground for peace to be offered to the peoples of Turkey. “

The Bureau added: “The Kurdish question is ultimately a constitutional question. It was Mr Öcalan himself who tried to bring all the fundamental debates on the Kurdish question back to the constitutional and legal foundations and to the terrain of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. (TBMM) and who urged it. However, despite this, isolation is kept in place as a method of lack of resolve. “

According to Asrın’s law firm, “the debates will remain cyclical if they are held without facing the fact that the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, which has been systematically implemented in violation of the prohibition of torture , stems from the lack of resolution of the Kurdish question. question and that the isolation worsened the lack of resolution. “

Concluding the statement, Asrın’s law firm said, “The isolation must end and it must be ensured that Mr. Öcalan is allowed to speak, with the ability to exercise all of his rights.

What happened?

The President of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, spoke about the Kurdish question in the first part of the documentary “Mr. Kemal and his alliances” by documentary filmmaker Günel Cantak.

The main opposition leader, Kılıçdaroğlu, said that in the elections in Turkey in 2015, he supported the entry of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) into parliament. Commenting on the Kurdish issue, he said:

“There is a Kurdish question that the political institution has been unable to resolve for 35-40 years. We need a legitimate body to resolve the Kurdish question. The institution we call the state does not address an illegitimate body. Erdoğan did it. For example, İmralı is not a legitimate organization.

“Who is the legitimate body? We can see the HDP as a legitimate body. He had the support of the people. He came to Parliament; therefore, he is inside Parliament and doing his duty. If this issue needs to be resolved, we can do so with a legitimate body, with the HDP. For this reason, I think the HDP should be in Parliament.

Commenting on Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s remarks, former HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli said that “the place and the interlocutor to resolve [the Kurdish question] is İmralı “, where Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the outlaw Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), was detained.

Behind bars for almost five years, former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş said: “The HDP that I know aspires to solve all of Turkey’s problems, including the Kurdish question; he is a political actor of his own will and he is – of course – an interlocutor. The place where it needs to be resolved is of course the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). “

Responding to questions from Suat Toktaş, editor-in-chief of Halk TV, Temelli said: “The opinions expressed in this tweet were – of course – my personal opinions. They – of course – are not binding on the party. Our authorized bodies – well safe – make binding declarations on behalf of the HDP.

In a written statement on the matter, MHP President Devlet Bahçeli said: “There is no Kurdish issue in Turkey. Viewing the HDP as a legitimate body means seeing the PKK as a legitimate body. (DŞ / SD)
