Berks Bar Association Receives State Award

The Pennsylvania Bar Association presented a County Bar Recognition Award to the Berks County Bar Association at the County Bar Association’s annual conference on Friday in Lancaster, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania Bar. the state.

Recognized for its Deferred Action Status Renewal Project for Childhood Arrivals, the Berks Bar is one of 23 local law societies in Pennsylvania honored this year for sponsoring projects that improve the legal profession, justice system or community, the statement said.

The awards are given annually by the state bar.

The statement said the Berks Bar has partnered with the Community Justice Project Reading Office to provide the following pro bono services to individuals seeking to renew their DACA status:

• Organization of a training session covering the history of DACA, the eligibility criteria and the forms required to renew an individual’s DACA status.

• Provided free meeting space for attorneys and DACA renewal applicants to discuss the process, complete the renewal application, and obtain free notarization services.

The program gave members the opportunity to serve the community and meet a growing need in Reading, where the US Census Bureau reported that one in five residents was born outside the United States, according to the release.
